A SNAPSHOT OF THE LAUNCH

About 100 people gathered at the University of Wollongong on 20 May 2004 to share the special event with Camtu Pham, author of Aim High Fly Fast. Most guests, including family members, are from the Wollongong region while others travelled from Canberra and Sydney. Among the guests were Camtu’s work colleagues, representatives of small and large business, academics, friends, family as well as community leaders. All were especially invited to attend the launch, which meant that even though there were a large number of guests, the event held a feeling of intimacy and shared good will.

The venue was beautifully decorated in orange and black – the colours of the book cover – and the catering was superbly provided by the UniCentre with both savouries and sweets, coffee, tea, juice and champagne. The song selected to mark this special occasion was ‘Climb Every Mountain’ – a strong theme of the book – performed by Connie Booker to Han Pham’s accompaniment on the keyboard.

The Master of Ceremonies was Mark Matthews from ABC 97.3 FM, and the main speaker to launch the book was The Hon. David Campbell MP. Besides Camtu’s speech, which described her journey while writing this book, and her aims in doing so, we were also very fortunate to have Certified Speaking Professional, Rob Salisbury, provide a glowing endorsement of the book and elaborate why everyone should have a copy of Aim High for their success library. The speakers, who were obviously confident in Camtu and her publication, as well as their roles in the launch, balanced the formal part of the proceedings with humorous asides.

The Fred Hollows Foundation

A representative from The Fred Hollows Foundation, Kelly Holcroft, was present on the day to witness the launch, to support Camtu and to acknowledge her contribution toward achieving the vision of the Foundation. If you don’t already know, 20% of all sales of Aim High Fly Fast will be donated to the Fred Hollows Foundation . With every 5-8 books sold, we are helping one person to have their eyesight restored.

The proceedings of the launch were as follows:

11:10AM Camtu’s speech about the journey with her book
11:20AM Rob Salisbury (CSP) gave an endorsement speech

11:40AM Minister Campbell and Camtu unveil the cover to showcase the book

If there is one thing to be mentioned and to be remembered about this special occasion, it is not that Camtu Pham has already achieved her goal in publishing this book; it was her public announcement that she would like to become a best-selling authors and to help at least 1000 people to have their eyesight restored through the Fred Hollows Foundation. Camtu does not take the public announcement of goals lightly. However, she has a strong belief that with the support of her network, and of God, there will be no doubt that one-day this goal will be achieved. Using an analogy from nature, she said that publishing this book was like planting a seed: She is now waiting for it to blossom with sales. With the natural law of the universe and confidence in her book, Camtu said she believes that Aim High Fly Fast will provide many harvests, and go a long way towards helping readers fast track their success while at the same time restoring the eyesight of many, many people.

IS AIM HIGH FLY FAST AN AUSTRALIAN PUBLICATION?

Yes. Absolutely! Aim High Fly Fast was written in Wollongong, which is on the South Coast of NSW, Australia. Furthermore, the publication of the book utilised only local talent in its editing and design, and a local artist was commissioned to produce all of cartoons used to emphasise the main points. Camtu Pham, the book’s author, decided that to pursue her dream she wanted to use the resources of the Illawarra as much as possible.

“The Illawarra is full of talented people in all areas of professional life and it was rewarding for me to find that I could prepare all elements of my book here,” Ms Pham said. “All of the graphic design work, the total look of the book and preparation for publishing was done here in the Illawarra. We should be proud of the depth of experience that can be sourced here.”
